"Are You in the Mood for Some Hot Fresh Bread" 2010-10-25
By niki3668
I purchased this bread machine for the little boy watch. He has a soy allergy that makes it hard to find bread he can eat. I found recipes on the internet and used some that came with the machine. I have made white, wheat and Italian herb bread. They all turned out perfectly! He and the entire family LOVE the bread that this machine makes. I would recommend this machine to everyone!

"good, not great" 2010-10-24
By P&B
We make multi-grain loafs all the time. They come out small but wouldn't blame the machine. Doughs are always good. Problems I've had are 1) the LED numbers failed early into this units 3 year life span--very inconvenient. 2) pan latches became very loose, but with slight adjustment we lived with it, 3) seems to be under powered, although a tablespoon of water often fixes its lugging; 4) deal breaker, the pan started to leak; the rings around the paddle shaft rusted away, thus why we're getting a new baker.

BUT even with these issues, we will probably get another TR520 because it is reasonably priced, it makes good consistent loafs the way we like them and doughs are better than average. I just wished it would last a little longer. Three star.

"Better than Store Bought!" 2010-10-23
By Karen Shore (Wyoming, MN United States)
I have three little complaints: 1) the bread comes out more square than oblong, makes for a very large sandwich (a huge bonus would be to come with a bread cutting guide). 2) the pale yellow background with the white letters used for the settings is quite cumbersome. This was quite puzzling to me because it is VERY hard to read the display... whose idea was it to use "pale" yellow and white? and 3) The recipe book is pretty hard to follow. It appears someone just jotted down the recipes and drew lines under each description to separate the ingredients. The way they have the ingredients displayed is somewhat confusing, but there is a way to figure it out... just careful attention. If this part of the review is confusing, that's what the recipe book is like, hard to explain it. THE SETTINGS: you have to be very careful with the settings, if you place setting for medium crust, it comes out very very dark, and hard. The light comes out medium, and somewhat harder than we like the crust to be. My solution: take out the bread about five minutes before it is finished. I don't know if there is any other machine out there better, but I really like having this instead of using store bought bread with all the fake and harmful ingredients; this way I know what exactly my family is eating. This machine, with a little tweaking on my part, works for me! Nice to have homemade bread.

"Why spend more?" 2010-10-17
By beejay
This machine does what my previous, much more expensive, bread makers did, bur for much less money! I can use very simple or complex recipes and as long as I have followed the recommendations of the manufacturer, the bread comes out just as planned! I had to try only three "practice" loaves to know how to alter my recipes. I do suggest you use the yeast suggested in the manual instead of any in your recipes or purchased bread mix! Now, go bake some fresh bread...winter is coming and nothing is as welcoming as that smell!

"May be the best on the market" 2010-10-12
By Alan L. Jensen (Glendale, CA USA)
I owned a Breadman for about 7 years, and wore it out. It worked great, except the last year or so it needed a bit of help to pick up and mix all of the ingredients; just a bit of digging flour out of the corners with a rubber spatula. In the new one, they've changed the shape of the pan; it looks like I won't have that problem.

I replaced it with this one. The heating coils quit about 90% of the way through the first loaf. Replacement was quick and easy, and the replacement has worked perfectly. I'd give it 5 stars, except the control panel on the front and the liquid crystal display are hard to read. I'll probably buy another Breadman in 5 or 10 years, when this one wears out!

"Sunbeam Breadmaker" 2010-10-05

Product arrived in new condition. Have used it twice...first time bread over-rose, second time was perfect...used two different recipes! I am satisfied but wish it came with more recipes that used all purpose flour. (went on the internet for these).

"Sunbean 5891 2-lb. Breadmaker" 2010-10-02
By B. Battibulli (Albany, New York)
I really don't get into reviewing products, but I just had to for this bread maker. Before I purchased the Sunbeam, I had an expensive Breadman go bad in a very short time. Didn't have a lot of money to spend, but I bake my own bread constantly, so I saw the Sunbeam advertised on Amazon.I wasn't sure how it was going to work out because it was inexpensive. I have to say that I love this Bread machine!! It is so much better than the expensive Breadman I had. The bread comes out perfectly each and every time so far. Last time I made bread, I forgot to add the butter just as the first knead started. I stopped the machine, pulled out the bread, added the butter and threw it back in the machine. The bread came out perfect!! I really can't say enough good things about how great the bread turns out. I will never go back to spending a lot of money for a more expensive brand again. The digital readouts on this Sunbeam were much easier to read than for my Breadman. I make bread twice a week, each and every, week, so if this machine lasts (and I see no reason why it shouldn't), I think it's the best buy on the market.

"Disappointing Machine" 2010-09-30
By Sherry Williams (Decatur, AL)
This is my third bread machine. I bought this one when my Westinghouse died, and have never made a really good loaf of bread in it. I have to use about twice as much yeast as the recipes call for to get the bread to rise, and every loaf has almost an inch of extremely hard bread at the bottom. I'm not sure what would cause that but I am looking for a new machine.

"Fabulous" 2010-09-25
By Jeanne Lachance (Goffstown, NH)
I love making bread, but it is so time consuming. I decided to buy the Sunbeam bread maker and it is the best buy we have done in a long time. So delicious and recipes that come with the bread maker are great. The Sunbeam bread maker is just wonderful.

"Great breadmaker" 2010-09-25
By M. Wilson (Chicago, IL)
I've made two loaves so far and it's been great. The only thing I wish it had was a setting to add nuts/chocolate chips/fruit. But, I just set a timer to go off during the second knead setting and it wasn't a big deal. The basic bread recipe came out perfectly. I also found a Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bread recipe online and it came out well, too!

Panasonic SD-YD250 Automatic Bread Bakery with 4 Baking Modes

Amazon.com Review

Providing myriad options, this automatic bread maker embodies the marvels of 21st century electronic convenience and choice. Yes, it mixes, kneads, rises, and bakes bread in three loaf sizes up to 2-1/2 pounds. But its digital controls go much further, offering settings for white, whole wheat, multigrain, and French (crisp crust, open texture) breads, each made according to what's best for that particular style. Other settings permit rapid baking and baking sandwich bread with a soft crust. For raisin (or other dried-fruit) bread, a beeper signals when to add the fruit so it's not crushed during kneading. Crust color--dark or light--can be selected as well. The machine automatically adds yeast at the proper time from a dispenser on the unit's lid. It also bakes non-yeast, quick breads-- like banana and gingerbread--and sweet cakes. And it mixes, kneads, and rises doughs for pizza, focaccia, croissants, and other pastries without baking them. A timer permits the machine to be programmed up to 13 hours in advance so fresh bread or cake is available for breakfast or dinner. For cleanup convenience, the baking pan is nonstick. Clad in metal and packing 550 watts of power, the machine measures 14 inches wide, 13.5 inches high, and 9 inches deep. Its instruction booklet is exceptionally easy to understand and includes recipes for 40 breads and doughs along with an insightful guide to baking basics and illustrated tips for making pastries. --Fred Brack

From the Manufacturer

There's nothing quite like the warm aroma of freshly baked homemade bread from the oven. With the help of this user-friendly bread machine, even those with a busy, on-the-go schedule can enjoy this simple pleasure--without the time-consuming hard work normally associated with baking bread. Just add ingredients, press a few buttons, and it takes care of the rest.

Soft-touch control panel with LCD digital display and 13-hour preset timer.

Easily Bake Bread or Create Dough

Bake loaves of white or whole wheat bread for slicing and slathering with butter and jam or for making sandwiches. Create croissant or pizza dough for shaping by hand and baking in the oven. Make the classic fruitcake to serve during the holidays. From basic recipes to custom creations, the bread machine produces delicious results--and without the additives and preservatives found in store-bought brands. A recipe book with over 50 original bread and dough recipes comes included.

Customizable Settings

The unit's top-access, soft-touch, push-button control panel with an LCD digital display helps ensure easy programming. Choose from three different loaf sizes (medium, large, or extra large) and the crust color (light, medium, or dark). It also offers up to six different types of bread or dough options--Basic, Whole Wheat, Multi-Grain, French, Pizza, and Cake. Baking modes include Bake Only (great for fruitcakes, gingerbread, and teacakes); Rapid Bake (reduces the baking time of basic and whole-wheat breads); Raisin (offers an audible beep to signal when to add raisins, dried fruits, or nuts into the dough); and Sandwich (produces bread with a soft crust). Dough modes include Pizza, Rolls, and Raisin Dough. Best of all, the appliance comes equipped with a digital timer, which can be set up to 13 hours in advance--great for waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread. Or set the timer before leaving for work in the morning so that a warm loaf will be ready and waiting after a long day at the office. Simply slice it up and serve with dinner.
Choose from 3 loaf sizes and 3 crust shades from light to dark.

Healthy and Nutritious

Baking bread at home allows for ultimate control over the finished product. By using only the freshest ingredients and making choices between a variety of options, homemade bread can be an important part of a well-balanced diet--for both young and older family members alike. High in fiber and low in fat, bread contains a wealth of beneficial components. It provides complex carbohydrates needed for energy, protein for strong muscles, and vitamins and minerals, including calcium and iron for healthy bones and teeth. Add nutrient-rich eggs to the recipe or choose whole-grain flour for an extra boost of fiber, iron, vitamins, and minerals. Mixing in nuts and dried fruits not only add to the pleasing consistency and taste of the finished product, but they're also another way to add to the overall health factor.

Yeast dispenser automatically adds yeast at optimal time to ensure perfect results.

Ultimate Convenience

Thoughtfully designed, the bread machine also supplies a YeastPro automatic yeast dispenser. Just add a measured amount of yeast into the holder on the unit's lid, and the machine will automatically dispense the yeast in with the other ingredients at the perfect time for optimal results. Even more, the unit's inner bake pan comes fitted with a wire handle (use an oven mitt when hot) for easily removing it from the appliance when the bread has finished baking. The pan's nonstick coating allows baked bread to slide easily out of the pan onto a cutting board or a wire rack to fully cool for easier slicing.

Inner bake pan offers built-in handle and nonstick coating for effortless bread removal.

Unique Design for Professional Results

Unlike other bread machines, the unit does not offer a viewing window. The absence of a viewing window allows a more even reflection of heat inside the unit, which offers the following three advantages: excellent crust, good rising, and even color. The machine also benefits from a unique temperature-control program that automatically optimizes the temperatures and times for each stage of the process. Its comprehensive microprocessor program makes slight adjustments as needed to ensure perfectly baked bread regardless of conditions like climate and room temperature.

Panasonic delivers excellent results regardless of different types of ingredients used, different seasons, and different room temperatures.
In addition to the recipe book, accessories include a measuring spoon, a measuring cup, and a kneading blade that fits onto the base of the inner pan for thoroughly mixing ingredients. Other highlights include a top-loading locking lid, a handy indicator light to show when the baking or dough cycle has completed, a safety fuse for peace of mind, and power-interruption protection that allows the baking process to resume even when there's an interruption in power for approximately 10 minutes or less. All parts should be hand washed only. The small appliance comes in a compact design that fits neatly on the kitchen countertop. Keep it out for everyday use or store it on a shelf or in the pantry when finished. Awarded the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, the 550-watt bread machine measures 13-3/8 by 9-1/16 by 14 inches, weighs about 15 pounds, and carries a one-year limited warranty.

"Best Bread Machine Ever!" 2010-08-28
By Fredericks Workshop
I have owned as many as 5 bread machines prior to purchasing the Panasonic SDWD250, this is the easiest and best machine I have ever used, and the bread comes out fantastic! My first bread machine also was a Panasonic Mod. SD BT6D over 30 years ago, I went through 3 bread pans and could not purchase parts for it any more, so I went to several other brands some over $200.00 and they were terrible machines could not even get the bread out of the bread pan do to the stupid double mixing paddles, both of the same manufacturer, I now use them for making dough only! I am extremely pleased with my Panasonic SDWD 250, I do not believe there is a better bread machine that will even come close to this one.

"Great machine, worth the $$$" 2010-08-26
By Matt (Grand Rapids MI)
This is a very decent machine at a mid-level price. Tons of features (more than I know what to do with, but not overwhelming). We've tried 25+ recipes with this machine and have been happy with how it functions on all kinds of bread. We did develop a slight problem where a bracket that holds the heating element in place broke; it has not affected the cooking of bread. We are contacting Panasonic for a replacement part. Good product otherwise.

"great bread maker" 2010-08-23
By James Sanborn
I bought the Panasonic (SD-YD250) to replace a tried and true breadman bread maker that I had used for many years. I wanted something that would be as reliable and that made a more elongated loaf. I did some research (friends and on-line) and decided to try the Panasonic. I am very pleased with my purchase. The bread it makes is fantastic! I've tried many of the included recipes and have not been disappointed. I have made my old stand-byes from when I used my other machine and they have also been great. The Panasonic seems well made, it's quiet, has easy-to-use controls and is easy to load and clean. I can't attest to its longevity but after a month it is doing well with making daily loaves. I can smell a loaf baking as I write this (french setting - very nice) and am looking forward to slicing into it for dinner.

"Best Breadmachine Ever!!" 2010-08-17
By J. Davis (Chehalis, WA)
This is the third Panasonic machine we have had!! (You might say we are a Panasonic family!) The first one we inherited; boy, were we surprised making that first loaf!!!We liked the machine so much--when it died, we bought our second Panasonic machine. After having it for a few years, it quit mixing properly---so now have our third and new--"what else" Panasonic SD-YD250, and absolutely LOVE it. Wouldn't buy anything else!! We use it almost daily and it is a super machine you can depend on to give you a great loaf everytime. (Just don't forget putting yeast in the little dispenser.) I have nothing bad to say about this machine, it rates really well and deserves that rating--it is a great, great machine. This machine costs a little more, but worth every cent!!! Now I have bought all of my three children one just like it for their families. They are that good!!!

"Great machine" 2010-08-16
By Jason P. Skrzypiec (Newport News, VA)
I have had this product under a week, and have already made a few loaves. The raisin bread recipe really surprised me. It has you add the fruit an 1-2 hours in to the cycle to prevent crushing them. I had thought that would result in just a glob of raisins in one section, and nothing in the rest. I WAS WRONG. Raisins were evenly spread throughout the entire loaf. The "french bread" came out a little denser than I was expecting, but the taste was amazing. The wife is setting the timer so we can have some fresh honey wheat ready for breakfast in the morning. Cleanup is easy. The included manual has 42 recipes in it, and the variety is pretty good. They even include some ancient breads.

The only down side is the long time for the cycle to complete. Our last machine (a $50 Walmart special), would have most options done in under 2 hours. The average cycle time for this one if 4 hours, but that is due mainly to long rise periods and an ingredient rest period prior to the cycle.
For a link to the manual go to :

[...]

If you are considering buying a bread machine, and obviously you are, buy this one. The quality of the machine and loaves, combined with the low price, makes it a winner.
