"Hamilton Beach 22 Qt. Roaster Oven, Stainless Steel" 2010-10-09
By Gail Jewell (Southern California, USA)
We are Farmers and I do a lot of cooking. I got this Roaster Oven so I could cook two in the time of one ,freeze the extra and have an almost ready source of quick dinner. Summer here is long and HOT, so using my kitchen oven is avoided about half the year.I have this roaster oven out on our porch.

This is the biggest non-comercial roaster I could find with cost being a facter also. I have been using the roaster at least once a week since I got it and I am very pleased with it. The only thing I don't like is how thin the cover is so I tent it with heavy duty alluminum foil to help insulate the top. This seams to cut the cooking time down a bit.

This Hamilton Beach roaster gives you an entire second oven and DOES NOT heat up your kitchen. Turkey's come out beautifully golden and crisp leaving your stove oven to handle other components of your Thanksgiving feast.

"Great Roaster" 2010-01-31
By Marianne Kincaid
The Roaster that I received from the site has worked great. It can easily cook a turkey and it comes out very juicy. It also is very easy to clean. I had great service from the distributor. He made sure that I got it in time for Thanksgiving. I would highly recommend the roaster and the site.

"Careful, it gets hot outside!" 2009-12-21
By M. Burningham (Eagle Mountain, UT United States)
The roaster oven worked great for our 22 lb Thanksgiving turkey, which was stuffed. However, it took about 60 minutes longer than the directions said it would for a stuffed bird. I used the browning sauce recipe included with the oven and the turkey looked perfect. It was moist and delicious! However, I did not expect the outside to heat up as much as it did and burned my hand when I touched it. I put a Post-It note on the cupboard above the roaster warning others not to touch!!

I have since used the roaster to steam about 12 lb of King Crab legs. I improvised a large enough colander from a disposable turkey roasting pan and set it on a rack I had that fit the roaster perfectly. I added 1 qt of water after preheating the roaster to 450 F, then piled in the crab legs. They were done perfectly in about 15 minutes. What an easy way to get this job done!

The roaster looks great and cleans easily -- once it has cooled.

All in all a great investment that has freed up my oven for other foods I make for our big family parties. I am very happy with this purchase.

"Fast, handy water boiler!" 2010-09-14
By Teresa (Houston, TX)
This boils a whole bunch of water very quickly. It's very handy, easy to use, and my mom, a big tea drinker loves it. It makes a nice Ding! when your water is ready, and then you can just grab your kettle and go anywhere because it's cordless.
Would recommend if you are a serious tea drinker (and you have the counter space!).

"Not really faster than old fashioned stove-top boiling." 2010-09-06
By zowee (Seattle, WA USA)
My Breville 1.7 liter Ikon Electric Kettle arrived packed very well and in good shape. The product is attractive; the instructions are nicely done (though there's not much to using a kettle!). Registering the product and opening an account at the [...] website was painless.

The main reason I bought an electric kettle was to have boiling water faster. Well I did a couple of experiments*. Here are the results:

Boil 1.7 Liters water:

--- Breville (Exactly 7 minutes),
--- Covered 2 qt Sauce Pan (7 minutes, 15 seconds)
--- Tea Kettle (7 minutes, 30 seconds)

Boil .5 liters water:

--- Breville (145 seconds)
--- Covered 2 qt Sauce Pan (150 seconds)
--- Tea Kettle (155 seconds)

*Breville time based on when the switch turned off. Tea Kettle based on full whistle. Sauce pan based on observed full rolling boil. Sauce pan and Kettle started on cold burner.

While the Breville was slightly faster than the old-fashioned competition, the differences are minimal. So now I'm wondering if this was worth the $70 price tag, or if any other electric kettle would do better. I doubt it, and I'll probably keep it, for two reasons: 1)the auto-off feature works and is worth quite a lot in terms of safety and convenience, 2) it looks pretty cool - a totally stupid reason but something I'm nonetheless prone to take into consideration.

A note on the retail box - on the back of the box, it says a half-liter of water takes "less than a minute" to boil. On the side of the box, it says a half liter of water takes 130 seconds to boil (that's 2 minutes, 10 seconds by my math, and it took 145 seconds in my test).

I bought this so I could boil water faster to start brewing coffee in my new Chemex coffee pot, with beans ground in my new Capreso burr grinder. I probably could have done just fine with my cheap Krups grinder and a tea kettle, but drama queen that I am, I like making major productions out of the simplest of tasks. I've really outdone myself this time!!

"Nice look, bad quality" 2010-08-25
By Bill Smart (Clayton, MO United States)
I bought this kettle originally because the top opened up wide enough to clean, the kettle detached from the base, and I prefer metal over plastic. And it has a cute blue light when it's on. So far so good.

We had to send back two of them because when we got them they didn't work.

We've now had it for a year or two. It's become a bit of a game to figure out exactly how to rotate/position the kettle on the base so it stays on/heating. It's been getting worse - a few months ago I thought I was just getting forgetful and not turning it on after filling it. Then I saw the light go out just after turning it on, the motion of the water sloshing around (I guess) breaking the connection. Now it's very difficult to find a position that works, and the slightest touch turns it back off again.

It's also a bit slower to heat water than my last kettle (which is no longer available) but not as slow as the kettle we have at work.

My guess is that the induction connection in the base is just poorly designed. Anyways, guess we'll be buying a new (different) kettle.
Oh yeah, it does get pretty hot.

"I'll never go back to heating water on the stove" 2010-08-22
By J. Swartz (Oakland, CA USA)
We use this to boil water for making coffee with a french press, for making tea, and for heating water for pasta when the stove's just not fast enough to do it alone. It heats up water very quickly, needs no maintenance (there's always some water in it, no leakage or rusting) and *bings* with a pleasant tone when the water's boiled, turning itself off. There's no chance we'll go back to a regular kettle now.

"Amazon's Questionable, "Service"" 2010-08-18
By Anonymous (Los Angeles)
This is a review of Amazon's service, not one of the actual kettle. I ordered this kettle 5 days ago and not only has it not shipped, but Amazon won't allow me to cancel my order. If I'd known that I'd be left hanging, I never would have ordered from them. Amazon usually has great service; with this order, they FAILED.

Presto Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener

Presto Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener

Lowest Price : $27.40

Technical Details

  • Electric sharpener produces razor-sharp knives in just minutes

  • Blade guides automatically hold knife at the ideal angle
  • 2-stage system sharpens, then hones blades
  • 8-1/4 by 5-3/4 by 4 inches; 2-year warranty

Product Description

Razor sharp knives whenever you want - easy, automatic. Professional two-stage system sharpens in seconds. Blade guides automatically hold knife at ideal sharpening angle.

Amazon.com Review

All kitchen and sporting knives, whether professional quality or inexpensive, need a blade tune-up now and then. This electric sharpener produces razor-sharp edges using the same rapidly rotating Sapphirite grinding wheels used by professional shops. A two-stage system allows knives to be ground and sharpened on the Stage 1 half of the machine, and then honed on the Stage 2 half. Blade guides hold the knife at the ideal sharpening angle for each side of the blade, as it is drawn slowly towards the user and kept parallel to the countertop. The sharpener is suitable for knives made of alloy, carbon, or stainless steel; it is perfectly normal for sparks to fly when knives of high carbon steel come in contact with the Sapphirite wheels. Non-electric serrated knives that are only serrated on one side can also be sharpened with this machine. Three suction cups on the bottom hold the sharpener securely on a table or countertop, and two receptacles underneath catch metal filings for disposal. The sharpener measures 8-1/4 by 5-3/4 by 4 inches, and is covered by a two-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

"Junk." 2010-10-14
By Curtis Larson
If you're looking for sharp knives get something else. I've used other electric knife sharpeners before and this one doesn't stack up well. The motor is very weak and I think the fine wheel must be too coarse as after 15 minutes of sharpening with decent knives I could not get a good shaving edge on one of them. My dad's Chef's Choice will put a shaving edge on the same knives in a couple of minutes. I actually think this sharpener dulled the edge of my folder slightly.

"PRESTO PRO ELECTRIC KNIFE SHARPENER" 2010-10-08
By John Daley (Pensacola, FL USA)
This product does what it is intended to do, and does it quickly and efficiently. It produce an almost "factory" sharp knife. I resharpened all my Japanese knives, including a traditional single bevel deba, and got excellent results. This is a 100% better method than sweating over sharpening stones, and gives close to the same result. I am more than satisfied with this well made, reasonably priced sharpener, and have recommended it to my family.

"Worth more than a $30 electric knife sharpener!" 2010-10-08
By romarchez (Vallejo, CA)
No need to spend any more on a knife sharpener than this one! This one did the trick in a jiff! I love to cook and have expensive knives, and have sharpened them with the knife sharpener that usually came with the set. Did my research and put my trust into this one, and proved me right!!!

"You get what you pay for" 2010-09-27
By Boris (Denver, CO)
A very average sharpener... I got the knifes to a little better shape than they were before but nothing comparing to what they were like when they were new. I'll probably keep it as it is relatively inexpensive and may keep the knifes in decent shape in between the professional sharpening, but I wouldn't recommend it as being even nearly close to what they advertise.

"Works Great after 2 months" 2010-10-15
By Gary Shouldis
This is my second deep fryer, our first one, which was an entry level one lasted only about 2 months before becoming pretty gross. Our new presto is awesome. Love the two baskets and the oil always seems to be heated just right. The food comes out nice and crispy, we started making homemade potatoe chips and the kids love them. Great choice.

"Good Deal" 2010-09-07
By Deb I
Bought this for a little league concession stand. Tried at home first and worked very well. Oil gets very hot and fries come out very well. Fries are the only thng I cooked but I would bet anything fried would turn out good. I think its a little large for home use unless you have a big family. Easy clean up and pack away.

After reading all the reviews for different fryers, I picked the Presto 5466 SS-Dual Basket Deep Fryer. It meets of exceeds all my expectations with frying battered items and non-battered items. We try to limit our fried foods intake, but when we do want fried food, this appliance works great.

"Great little personal chopper" 2010-10-15

"Capable Food Chopper" 2010-10-05
By Richard M. Decicco (Fairhaven, MA)
I've only used this once to date and so far so good. The only thing I do NOT like is that the top part does not click on securely you need to hold it down. I expected it to click/lock onto the container but it doesn't. It would also have been nice if it came with another 3 cup coverd bowl to chop in.

"best chopper I have tried" 2010-09-29
By M. Kondracki (NYC)
I needed to chop walnuts..because they are not tiny (we already knew that)

This little appliance brought them down to size: for salads, oatmeal, and others. It's super fast, and easy to clean. What else can you ask for? Extremely please. Don't buy coffee grinders to chop nuts (useless, blades too flimsy). The little appliance looks fine in my kitchen. It's not high tech looking (who cares), but works like a champ. Two thumbs up!!

"A waste of good food." 2010-09-28
By Mark D. Williams (Edmonds, WA United States)
When arrived, I was pleased with the 'look'.

The first dish I made (Beef stew) was not good. I thought perhaps it was a bad recipe. The second time I used it (Lamb shanks), the meat was not 'falling off the bone' as I had anticipated.I thought perhaps it was because I had lifted the lid 'to look'.

Yesterday, after spending a lot of money on 2 lbs of sirloin tip, onions, carrots, spices, red wine and sour cream, for a lovely beef stroganoff, I plopped it all in and set the timer on low (per directions) for NINE hours. I did not remove the lid once. Dinner for 4 was at 6PM.

I cooked some lovely egg noodles as I completed the sauce (sour cream, water, cornstarch) to pour over and put on high for 30 mins. Before pouring over, I picked out a piece of meat to 'test'. Aaaagh. It was still chewy. But I carried on. The timer counted down 30, 25, etc etc. At 7 minutes to go, I said to my husband 7 more minutes.... 10 minutes later, the time read seven more minutes again. It was BROKEN. I quickly emptied everything into a stew pot and tried to bring it to a boil quickly, to thicken the sauce. By which time of course, my noodles were getting cold and sticky.

What an embaeeassment to serve up. After nine and a half hours of slow cooking, the beef was still like leather. The carrots and onions had to be cut with a knife. And then the machine just quit. All this for $70 (with shipping).Next time, I shall buy from a local department store where I can return it by driving there. What a poor excuse for a slow-cooker this is. Especially with a name like Quisinart.

"A really-slow cooker--that's a GOOD thing" 2010-09-18
By K. M. Fowler (Sacramento, CA USA)
At last, a slow cooker with settings that mean what they say. Other slow cookers I've had have overcooked just about everything, because their low and high settings amount to the same thing. This one has three options, simmer, low, and high, and those settings truly provide the range of heat they suggest.

I'm a single-person household, and this size is excellent for small roasts, stews, and soups that will provide some leftovers, but not an eternity of leftovers. The oval shape is a good fit for the food and the counter. All parts are easily cleaned. The lid fits well, another thing I can't say for previously owned slow cookers.

And if I've convinced you to buy this one, the price (on the day I'm writing this review) is lower than what I paid last month. Go for it!

"Great so far" 2010-09-01
By reddog mom
Have only used it once cooking a brisket but it turned out great. Doesn't get too hot which seemed to be a problem with older models. I was worried after I ordered it that it might be too small, but size is perfect. Plenty of room to cook and not such a big clunker to store. Looks nice too.

"Great slow cooker!" 2010-08-15
By Hoppaguy (San Diego)
I guess you would have to say that I am a novice slow cooker but I have made so many things in this slow cooker from spaghetti to ribs. I love how convenient it is to simply throw all the ingredients in the morning and when you come home at night, it is all done and ready to serve. I looked at some of the "higher end" models and had no idea what some of the features meant! If you want a basic slow cooker that works, this is the one for you!

"A slow cooker that really works!" 2010-08-08
By P. C. Wood (San Jose, CA)
I read the reviews of many slow cookers ("crock pots") when I was buying this for my wife to replace our ancient "crock pot". I read about the lack of temperature control, the broken lid handles, the overcooked food, the noise, etc. I decided to buy a little higher end product, and the Cuisinart PSC-350 has not disappointed us. It has a very low "warm" setting, that can be set to keep the food warm after the cooking cycle - and it really works, not boiling or overcooking the food. The programmable settings are easy to use and very effective in preparing a wide variety of recipes. Plus, the slow cooker seems well made, does not leak steam or condensate, and looks nice too. Of course, the cermic pot comes out for cleaning, and the knob has not broken off (of course it might if it was dropped on the floor!). Very pleased with this purchase.

"Hand Mixer Update" 2010-09-27
By Pete Adkins
As always from Amazon, I received my item promptly in the mail. The reason I ordered the Cuisinart HM-70 mixer is because the mixer I had finally broke after more than twenty years of faithful service. I have plugged in and turned on the mixer, but have not actually used it yet. It seems to have a good motor in it and I like the design of the beaters that come with it. I am a big stainless steel fan so that is one of the features that I like about it. Sorry that I don't have more to say but may update this review after I have had cause to use the mixer. I plan on making cheese cake in October which was a strain on my old mixer. We'll see how this one does.

16OCT10

Okay, I just finished making my cheese cakes and the mixer performed very well and was much better than the old one that I had been using. There was some sort of electrical oder coming from the unit as I used it but I will file this under normal for now. Works great and cleans up nicely. Very easy to use. Have no regrets or second thoughts about my purchase.

"I returned after a few uses" 2010-09-20
By kab (Chicagoland area)
I was so excited to receive this mixer, but was only left feeling extremely disappointed. The mixer shook terribly in my hand on any speed I used it on. I would double, triple check to make sure all the beaters were secure, and they always were. Additionally, the slow speed power up was hardly of one, and even the low speeds were very fast beating. I could not get used to the mixer; I returned it to Amazon.com.

"excellant mixer" 2010-09-20
By G. Robinson (CO)
I reserve 5 stars for products that exceed expectations. This mixer is an excellent tool and works as described.

The Good:

Lots of power
Multiple speeds let you select the best one for the job
Less splatter than most hand mixers.

The Bad:

The fan is noisy (not horrid but still).

Can splatter if you just pile up the flour and then crack a couple eggs into it like for some breads and pizza dough or lift the beaters out of the material with the motor running. (Well Duh don't do that).

The Ugly:

Not a replacement for a stand mixer--well unless you consider the light duty ones.
Can produce a lot of torque in heavy dough, hard on those of us with arthritis.
Overall a excellent mixer at a very good price.

"Gets the job done." 2010-09-20
By Billy T. Kid (California)
Easy to use. Beaters are easy to clean. My only complaint is a slight wobble as if the mixer is out of balance. It seems like the shape of the beaters which are not symmetrical is causing the wobble. Otherwise, it's a good value and has plenty of power.

"Cuisinart 12 cup food processor blows Kitchenaid away!!!" 2010-10-13
By luvtocook
I recently purchased the Kitchenaid 12 cup food processor. After using it for 3 weeks, I returned it for the 12 cup Cuisinart, and so glad I did. They are not even in the same ball park. 1. The stem inside the bowl of the Kitchenaid is too short and liquid leaks all over the place/ The cuisinarts stem is very long, and the blade LOCKS into place. No leaks. 2. The blade locks in on the cuisinart, so if you are pouring, it stays put, not so on the kitchen aid. 3. There is a pour spout on the cuisinart and makes it easy to pour your mixtures into a bowl easily, not so on the kitchen, it makes a mess and runs down the side. 4. The blades snap on and off easily with the cuisinart. 5. the small mixing bowl blades also locks, so when you make dressing for example, you just leave it attached to the big bowl, and pour it over your meal. The kitchen aid did not, so you have to take it all apart just to simply pour from it. 6. The plastic bowls on the Cuisinart are a much higher quality than the Kitchenaid, 7. Cusinart comes with a recipe book and a VERY helpful DVD. Kitchen aid, nothing, your own your own. 7. The top to the storage case on the cusinart has hinges and a lock, so pulling it out of a cabinet is easy and pieces stay secure. The kitchenaids is cheap, and the lid falls off and the contents go everywhere.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. Do yourself a favor and stick with the tried and true Cusinart, you will love it!!!! No comparison.

"Dough blade DOES NOT LOCK" 2010-10-11
By kitchen witch
great machine with two issues, locking system for blades is not that great. The dough blade does not lock at all. I have had it raise during dough cycle and get dough up inside dough blade housing. Messy. Rather inconvenient when using smaller bowls to have to clean ALL of them.

"It is pretty good" 2010-10-10
By Roberta L. Willoughby (Roscoe, IL United States)
The positive is that it works great. Easy to clean. Nice storage box. Love the retractable cord.

The negative - If you don't the the back part of the top of the machine hooked over the back part of the bottom of the machine - what a mess! Be very careful, because the machine leaks somewhat as it is, and if the top isn't on exactly right, the machine will run, but leaks really bad.

Excellent product, loads of detailed descriptions on here which I found very helpful and factually correct.
My wife loves the machine and we use it all the time!

"Love it" 2010-09-20
By A. Soul (Montana)
Only gripe I have, is don't always notice the lid isn't down all the way. Handle part clicks, but the front isn't always in. Just need to double check it is all. ON the other hand, I love all the parts that come with it. The different size bowls are good to make smaller batches. I love that the cord is retractable!!!! I always keep it on the counter, but don't have room to keep all things I need, plugged in. Makes less cord mess. It is my new fave kitchen toy.

"Bad design, cheaply made cracked within a month" 2010-09-22
By Paulene Quig
The back plastic where all the wired attach to the iron is poorly made and takes all the rotational force. It cracked after a MONTH of light use. Not worth the price and very disappointing. Also uneven heating between both sides.

"Great purchase" 2010-09-17
By Diana M West
No disappointment here. Just don't overfill or it is hard to rotate. Less is best for the amount of batter used.

"Great Waffle Maker" 2010-09-05
By Gary Calega (Marlton, NJ United States)
This product works as advertised. If your are making waffles for 6 grandchildren at a time, you need a device that makes more than one at a time.

The only caution I have is to follow the directions exactly as to how much batter to put in the waffle iron. Do this and you'll love the results.

"Hit at the tailgate" 2010-10-01
By Barbara Schifter (Mount Airy, MD)
We have only used the fryer one time so far but do plan to use it more. We took it to a college football tailgate and made chicken wings. It worked just like it was supposed to. It did make a mess of the fryer and was some work to clean it up but that is the nature of fried oil.

"Great for steaming clams and corn" 2010-09-06
By Debby Withawye
We purchased this turkey fryer because we love to steam seafood and corn-on-the-cob and this is the best way to do it. We can have 12 people for a clam bake and do 100 clams per pot and the best part is it keeps that seafood smell outside and not in my house! Love it.

We have been very pleased with the product and think that we received great value for the price. Everything works well. My only criticism is that it was difficult to put the base together. We're looking forward to cooking more crab this weekend!

"Aids Healthy Eating" 2010-09-25
By Opiessence (Detroit, MI)
This is a very attractive item to sit out on the counter, etc. It cooks quickly. I like the outside water indicator, however, it is a little hard to see being clear water and a clear over over the indicator.

"Simple and effective" 2010-09-25
By MARK J LEFLER
Great, easy to use product. It is nice you can cook either frozen or thawed food in about the same time. Meals take under 30 minutes to make and come out tasty and healthy. If only it would clean itself...but the dishwasher safe plastics make most of the cleanup a snap.

"Make sure you clean the steamer out soon after steaming." 2010-09-21
By R. Sims (Springfield, MO)
I really like this steamer. It produces abundant steam and cooks very fast (must watch not to overcook foods.) I must say though it's very important to drain and rinse the cooker out soon after use. I was lazy and waited til morning to clean it and by then it was a smelly mess. I put some baking soda in it and turned it on for awhile. I then drained it well and left it out to dry.

I like this steamer. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone needing a steamer.

"Sunbeam Breadmaker" 2010-10-05

Product arrived in new condition. Have used it twice...first time bread over-rose, second time was perfect...used two different recipes! I am satisfied but wish it came with more recipes that used all purpose flour. (went on the internet for these).

"Sunbean 5891 2-lb. Breadmaker" 2010-10-02
By B. Battibulli (Albany, New York)
I really don't get into reviewing products, but I just had to for this bread maker. Before I purchased the Sunbeam, I had an expensive Breadman go bad in a very short time. Didn't have a lot of money to spend, but I bake my own bread constantly, so I saw the Sunbeam advertised on Amazon.I wasn't sure how it was going to work out because it was inexpensive. I have to say that I love this Bread machine!! It is so much better than the expensive Breadman I had. The bread comes out perfectly each and every time so far. Last time I made bread, I forgot to add the butter just as the first knead started. I stopped the machine, pulled out the bread, added the butter and threw it back in the machine. The bread came out perfect!! I really can't say enough good things about how great the bread turns out. I will never go back to spending a lot of money for a more expensive brand again. The digital readouts on this Sunbeam were much easier to read than for my Breadman. I make bread twice a week, each and every, week, so if this machine lasts (and I see no reason why it shouldn't), I think it's the best buy on the market.

"Disappointing Machine" 2010-09-30
By Sherry Williams (Decatur, AL)
This is my third bread machine. I bought this one when my Westinghouse died, and have never made a really good loaf of bread in it. I have to use about twice as much yeast as the recipes call for to get the bread to rise, and every loaf has almost an inch of extremely hard bread at the bottom. I'm not sure what would cause that but I am looking for a new machine.

"Fabulous" 2010-09-25
By Jeanne Lachance (Goffstown, NH)
I love making bread, but it is so time consuming. I decided to buy the Sunbeam bread maker and it is the best buy we have done in a long time. So delicious and recipes that come with the bread maker are great. The Sunbeam bread maker is just wonderful.

"Great breadmaker" 2010-09-25
By M. Wilson (Chicago, IL)
I've made two loaves so far and it's been great. The only thing I wish it had was a setting to add nuts/chocolate chips/fruit. But, I just set a timer to go off during the second knead setting and it wasn't a big deal. The basic bread recipe came out perfectly. I also found a Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bread recipe online and it came out well, too!
