"Made it just past the warranty!" 2010-09-22
By basicblur (Virginia)
I bought one of these for a relative-fit/function/operation seemed fine 'til just after the warranty expired, when most of the buttons would not operate. Since it was out of warranty, she plugged along since the one-touch button operations were 'bout the only thing she used. After a couple more months, the last few remaining buttons that did work gave it up. She has a display, but none of the control buttons work.

I've had a couple of Sharps over the years, and they seemed to be quality units.

I guess Sharp has now joined the ranks of those in a race to the bottom?

"Neat little microwave - 3 stars because of Amazon" 2010-09-12
By Topgun (Bordentown, NJ United States)
The star rating here may be unfair to the machine - it is a neat looking solid performer - but it partly takes the blame because its manufacturer went cheap on the packaging so we received three damaged units from Amazon and returned them all. Amazon took them all back and refunded our money. We went on to buy it at the same price at Sears. The steel box gets easily dented and the packaging on this microwave is a joke with no structural support - it probably has such dings on every second item when they stack one box on top of the other - this was proven when the lady at Sears said they had three pieces - she brought all three of them out after hearing my tale and sure enough the first one we opened at the store had a huge dent, the second and third ones were ok and I picked one. This was a temporary replacement for our above-the-range mwave oven that had failed and Maytag's warranty division was giving us the run around and we needed something to get us by. We have since regained use of our main mwave and packed this away to the basement. A decent quiet solid performer that I would easily recommend for a house, dorm or litle office cafe.

"Worked great - for three weeks" 2010-09-06
By Diane Lopez (Music City)
We have had a couple of Sharp Carousel microwaves in the past and have always been very happy with their performance, so this is the first brand we went looking for when shopping for our son. That, evidently, was the Sharp of years ago. This worked well for our son in his new apartment - for precisely three weeks. He tried to make microwave mac-n-cheese one afternoon, and the microwave started smoking. This was about a 4 minute process, and the product was specifically designed to be cooked in the microwave. Afterwards, it made a horrible noise and would no longer heat. We bought it here online, so of course, no original packaging three weeks after it was delivered and first used. In essence, we paid $100 for three weeks worth of usage. Not worth our time to try and find a Sharp dealer and possibly pay again for a repair. Now we're off to Wal-Mart to find a replacement brand. We will never buy another Sharp again, nor will we be likely to buy appliances online again.

"My adivice? AVOID this one." 2010-09-05
By Filedog
Bought this based on excellent reviews here, and it DOES cook well, WHILE it works.
Got it in Dec. of 2008, used SPARINGLY....it stopped heating last night.
Ran like normal, but made a funky smell, and wouldn't heat.
I'm out of the standard warranty (1 year), but the magnetron is still covered.
This is PROBABLY the magnetron (part that actually heats the food),
but may also be other parts. I researched this, and people are not happy with
Sharp's service, ie, needing to carry it in, often hundreds of miles away.
PLUS, labor is NOT covered, so I could easily spend as much as a new unit.
Prior to the Sharp,I had a Panasonic given to me, that was probably 20 years old, never a hiccup,
Two thumbs down to Sharp!
