"Not stainless steel" 2010-09-25
By Alan Beth (miami, USA)
I bought this rice cooker thinking it was stainless steel - it is Not stainless steel. The cooking surface is a non stick coating (probably teflon). I returned the item.

"Great Rice Cooker" 2010-09-22
By Georgia shopper
This rice cooker is exactly what we needed for a small family. The rice cooker is easy to use, cooks rice perfectly, and has a sleek style. All that is needed is some Hello Kitty stickers for decoration :)

"First Day Disaster" 2010-09-16
By Gene Venable (San Diego, CA)
I have an inexpensive rice cooker. It works more or less perfectly. I always make brown rice. I don't know what brand the cooker is.

I wanted this cooker, which seems legendary and promising, so I bought it. Yesterday I tried it. I didn't have time to read the instructions in depth, but I think I got the gist -- it didn't seem complex. And I also bought The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook -- I have really been bitten by the rice cooker bug. I am basically a cooking illiterate, though.

I really wanted to try it out immediately, but I had a doctor's appointment. So I tried the timing feature. I think it worked fine. The appointment was for 12:30 p.m. I set the timer at about 9:30 in the morning, for the rice to be finished by 3 p.m. I rinsed the rice half-heartedly, because I don't usually do that. The Cookbook I mentioned above said I didn't have to rinse it. As I recall, you click Cook to start the process. It doesn't start cooking immediately when you are using the timer, of course -- it starts cooking when it thinks it is appropriate for the time you have set it to complete, as I understand it.

The appointment took longer than I expected. I didn't arrive home till 4 p.m., which I expected would be no big deal. Everything seemed fine. When I got home the cooker was on "keep warm" or whatever.

I had tried to follow all the instructions I found (and they didn't seem bad to me, as others indicate -- maybe they have been rewritten), but the brown rice (short grain Diamond California Select brown, my favorite mainly because it is cheap and good) was an overwet clammy, sticky bunch of rice. I am tolerant and I like rice, so I liked this ok, but it wasn't as good as the rice I have been accustomed to every day. Cleaning out the pot was not as easy as has been mentioned elsewhere, either. The rice didn't fall out of the pan -- it stuck to the sides to a certain extent. It was still pretty easy, but the other reviews made me expect something wondrous.

This was a shock to me because I expected the perfect rice that is the mantra of the reviews you see here. Next time (today, that is) I will try rinsing it more and using less water.

I hope that this review is just a grim warning that perfection can be mucked up by a clutz such as I am. I hope that I am later trying to delete this review because it is so wrong-headed. But we'll see.

"Best Rice Cooker ever!" 2010-09-08
By Madeline A. Zdenek (Mercerville, NJ USA)
I have used electric ricers before but none as good as this one. A friend recommended this brand to me when I complained that my brown rice never came out right in the electric rice cooker that I had. My friend had this Zojirushi cooker and told me the rice comes out perfect and the bowl cleans up quickly. She was right on all counts! The rice comes out fluffy and done to perfection, whether I am using white short or long, or brown rice. The warmer feature is great because I can make my rice ahead of time and know that when we are ready to eat, the rice will still be nice and warm and fluffy. I would recommend this Zojirushi Rice cooker very highly.

"Suihanki" 2010-08-27
By Kensei (los angeles)
This is a great rice cooker. I'm Japanese and make rice probably 6 out of 7 days a week. This cooker makes perfect rice every time. I wash my rice in the morning and set the timer in the morning before I goto work and when I get home I have perfect gohan waiting for me. I only use it for cooking Japanese white rice so I can't comment on it's ability to cook other stuff.

"Don't waste your money" 2010-08-25
By Gregory MacDonald
I purchased this rice cooker mainly to cut down on the time required keeping track of brown rice. Not only does it not save any time or hassle, it doesn't even do white rice well. Regardless of ratio of rice to water, setting etc. the rice (white and brown) always ends up sticking or burning and usually undercooked until I add more water and try to bring it back to an edible state. The company has been totally unresponsive to several attempts to figure out why this piece of junk doesn't work.

"Works Well" 2010-08-15
By Beverly J. Hall (St. Paul, MN USA)
Does a good job of steaming vegetables. I haven't used it to cook rice yet. The one thing I was a little surprised to discover is that while there is a delay timer to start the cooker at a preset time, it does not have a timer to cook the veggies, unless I missed something. I have to use a separate timer but it does the job. A little nit is there is a clear plastic piece that captures the water condensation when the lid is opened. The manual says nothing about this since it needs to be drained after each use. It is easy to take out the piece, wash it and replace it but I was surprised the manual didn't mention it.

"does what it has to do perfectly...." 2010-08-13
By Pramod Padal (NJ)
Did I mention perfectly.... yes every time.... After using for 5 month now... I can say that...
I am from India... we eat rice a lot.... and I cook rice in variety of forms... like Veg Pulao, Veg Biriyani, Tomato rice, shrimp Pulao.... etc... What ever I Cook, I was never disappointed.....

I had couple of different, even cheaper rice cookers like Black and Decker and some thing else....

I always used to blame the rice, for making the rice too soft or sticking a lot at the bottom.... when both of my cookers became old enough, I was looking for something good.... so I was researching on Amazon this time instead of just picking some thing from Wal-Mart.... so after some 100 good reviews.... I gave it a shot.... and guess what...peace of mind.

Cons: however I found one Issue... when I finish cooking and take it on to dining table... it does not come with a glass top. Not a big issue, but that would have been a lot of Convenient.

"Think twice before you buy!" 2010-08-09
By Lisa Zurek (Santa Maria, CA United States)
We bought one of these at Costco. It was to replace an old rice cooker that we had had for 8+ years--the plastic finally cracked. This rice cooker looked really modern. It was a piece of garbage. Although the first time or two it was fine---the steam opening on top would spill over into this sticky mess and I would burn my fingers trying to clean it off the top of the lid before it streamed down the sides. I thought that maybe I should rinse the rice out and get rid of some of the starch. Didn't work. Thankfully, I was able to return it (with no receipt!) and get a full refund.
